Bench Dedication
Vic Richards - 7/3/2005

In July, 2004 Vic Richards, former long-time Manager of Frye Island, died in New Hampshire after suffering a heart attack about a month prior.

We Frye Islanders have great affection for Vic. The Frye Island we now enjoy is a result of his steady hand, dedication, and vision -- and it is in this spirit that a memorial has been installed in his honor. A granite bench has been placed in “Vic’s Garden” (on the right-hand side of the Island ferry landing). This is a garden spot that Vic planned, purchased, and planted while he was our Town Manager. This seemed an appropriate site for a memorial, as Vic’s wife Janet, has reminisced how much Vic enjoyed being near the lake and loved the view from his office window.

Contributions from many Islanders paid for the memorial bench. The inscription reads

In Memory of Our Friend
Vic Richards
Island Manager 1987-2000

On Sunday July 3, 2005 a dedication ceremony was held to commemorate the memorial bench in Vic's honor. Kathy Potts was the ceremony leader and current Town Manager Wayne Fournier recounted the many accomplishments of Vic while on the Island.

A copy of the program of the July 26, 2004 Memorial Service held in New Hampshire provides some additional information.

God bless you, and rest in peace, Vic!
