Congressman Baldacci's visit to Frye Island
Back on August 11, Congressman John Baldacci, from Maine's second district, spent a couple of hours on the island as part of his campaign for Governor. He was treated to a lunch meeting with the Selectmen, the BIT Chair and an FII representative. The conversations were very helpful in giving us a new view of our relationship with SAD 6, as well as the State Legislature. The Congressman certainly understands where the Town is coming from in its quest to re-structure its relationship with SAD 6, and has provided us with some ideas that may make our task a bit easier.
Following lunch, there was a period of questions and answers with residents that stopped by. Questions were raised about education, health coverage and federal pensions.
Finally, due to the lateness, an abbreviated tour of the island took the Congressman from the Community Center to the Fire Department, and then back to the landing, where he made an impromptu visit to the Cafe.
On behalf of the Congressman, as well as the elected officials of the island, I would like to specifically thank Christa Mueller and Bobbie Aranyi for their help in organizing and serving the lunch, as well as Lois for providing such wonderful fare.
