SEBAGO LAKE WATER LEVEL UPDATE

I finally received some feedback to my inquiries regarding the lake levels for Sebago Lake through the rest of the fall.

The plan is for this year to serve as one of the two drought years that the plan calls for every nine years. The target water level during the November to January/February time frame is 261'. This is an attempt to mimic actual cycles. The hope is to provide for natural beach nourishment during the winter months.

To achieve that goal, SAPPI has been dropping the lake level, and will continue to do so over the next two months. The plan is to continue the rate of draw down of approximately 12" per month. The fairly rapid rate of water drop we have noticed over the past several weeks was an attempt to get the lake in position to hit the winter mark.

If the lake stays on target, SAPPI and DEP feel it will be the end of September before the lake hits the 263' level, and then there will be an effort to get it to 261' as soon after November 1 as possible.

This could affect your decisions as to when to pull boats, docks, etc.

If you are interested in checking the daily average water level, you can go to the following web site: http://water.usgs.gov/nwis/dv/?site_no=01063995&agency_cd=USGS
which is tied to the SAPPI water gage.

NOTICE

Please have curbside trash securely bagged and in a container for Public Health reasons.  Trash crew will not pick up torn or broken bags.  Do not put out your trash too early.  If you are leaving the island before scheduled pickup, please
deposit your trash in thecontainers provided at the brush dump.  Help to keep  your island home healthy and beautiful.
Residents are also reminded to keep vehicles and  trailers out of narrow roads and circles where the rubbish truck is to pass through.  Narrowing the road or circles in this manner creates a safety hazard for both residents and trash crew.  The rubbish truck will NOT negotiate these spaces.  Please co-operate and help to keep things safe by not blocking narrow roads and circles.
REMEMBER:  Curbside pickup is for
bagged household trash only.  No wood, metal or cardboard, please.  Those  materials can be deposited in the appropriately marked dumpsters in the brush dump.

NOTE:  Residents using the wooden or Rubbermaid curbside boxes to put their bagged trash in, are
reminded to put out some kind of marker or flag to indicate that there is trash in the box to be picked up.
