Dear Fellow Islander!
When our ferry looses a propeller (sheared shaft) or develops a leak, I believe we need to think about inspection and maintenance more seriously.
IT IS COMMON SENSE THAT:
*To make an assessment of the condition of ferry hulls, one must be able to see the metal--on inside and outside. *An inspection must produce a written report stating what and how it was inspected and include the results and recommendations. *We should respect the age of our ferries. It is an engineering truth that any structure under dynamic loading becomes less strong because of fatigue. *Also, when cars and heavy trucks are loaded onto a ferry in such a way that some car passengers cannot open doors and get out, that ferry run is being conducted in an unsafe manner.
PLEASE think about this and voice your concerns at meetings. Thank you!
