Your local Emergency Management Directors will be working closely with Cumberland County EMA to track this storm.   Although it's too early to know whether this storm will actually hit Maine directly, this provides a good opportunity to remind people about a good resource for individual and family preparedness - the Maine Public Health Association's Get ME Ready campaign.  There are lots of good tools available online, including checklists for building Get Ready kits: http://www.mainepublichealth.org/getready.php

transportation workshop  ―  The Board of Selectmen / Executive Committee & the Transportation Committee will hold a Workshop on Saturday August 28, 2010 at 9:00 A.M. in the Community Center.   The purpose of this workshop is to discuss the results of the Transportation Committees research into the use of the Willis property on the mainland.   The general public is invited.

sad6 meeting ―  A District Budget Meeting will be held at Bonny Eagle Middle School at 7pm on April 29 for the purpose of determining the budget meeting articles.

FIRST FERRY ―  At the February 6th Board of Selectmen / Executive Committee meeting the date of the first public ferry run of the 2010 season will be on Friday April 23rd. As normal, that first ferry date is subject to weather conditions. Check back on the website to get updates to see if this date is firm. If the weather is bad, the date will slip.

Selectmen / Executive COmmittee meeting ―  The next Selectmen / Executive Committee meeting is scheduled for Saturday April  3rd, starting at 9am. The Agenda for the meeting is online. Anyone interested in the meeting should contact Town Manager Wayne Fournier for information.

Bid Item, Two, 1986, ”Lugger” diesel marine engines, keel cooled, model #L-6414D, 143 HP @ 2500 RPM.  “Twin Disc” #506 transmissions are included with each engine.

All bids shall include both engines. Engines are sold as is, as shown, with no warranty.

Engines and transmissions were in good running condition when they removed from the ferries. Engines were last run in February 9, 2010 and removed from the ferry on the following week. Engines shall be sold to the highest responsible bidder.

obituary ―  Our thoughts & prayers are with our Town Manager Wayne Fournier and his family on the death of his mother. The following obituary appeared in the Kennebec Journal on March 2, 2010:

Renee (Markham) Fournier

 NORTH VASSALBORO -- Renee (Markham) Fournier, 86, died peacefully Feb. 27, 2010, at her home. She was born in Sheffield, England, a daughter of George and Eliza Markham. Educated in England, Renee met her husband-to-be, Carleton "Ike" Fournier, as she was serving in the Timber Corps of the Land Army of England and Ike was a member of the U.S. Army Medical Corps.

In 1943, they met at a Woodchoppers Ball and, in 1944, they married. In 1945, their first child was born, and in 1946 she and her first child finally joined Ike in North Vassalboro. As was the case with most war brides, "getting married" was the easy part; getting her to the United States was the real challenge.

Renee was a member of St. Bridget's Catholic Church in North Vassalboro, where she was also the cantor for many years and a member of the Kennebelles; she delivered Meals on Wheels for more than 30 years. She worked for St. Bridget's Credit Union, which then became Vassalboro Federal Credit Union; and the American Woolen Mill, which was across the street; was manager of the Wyandotte Mill Store, and also worked for W.T. Grant.

Renee was predeceased by her parents and her sister and brothers; and, in 1989, her beloved husband, Ike. Surviving are her five children, Wayne and his wife, Nancy, of Frye Island and The Villages, Fla., Rick and his wife, Lisa, of St. Petersburg, Fla., Pat Soucie, of Oakland, Cindy Smith and her husband, Robert, of Oakland, and Bill and his wife, Kathy, of Athens, Ohio; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, March 3, at Veilleux's Funeral Home, 8 Elm St., Waterville. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Thursday at St. Bridget's Catholic Church in North Vassalboro. Burial will be in the spring in The Village Cemetery, North Vassalboro. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Renee's memory to The Maine Children's Home for Little Wanderers, 93 Silver St., Waterville, ME 04901.
